I agree Saleama – although it takes work – it is worthwhile – especially because we are inquiring about God’s truth. Do you have a translation that you prefer over others? I prefer the ESV and the NIV. These two offer just enough contrast to get me started.

I prefer the NIV over all translations. But I often refer to the Message. I have several translations like the New Oxford Annotated, The New Kings James and the Holman Christian Standard. I don’t always refer to these because I prefer the NIV but the podcast was a great reminder why we should refer to several translations.
