Matthew 3:4 wasn’t just describing John’s hygiene and diet…… 🙂
John the Baptist wore a camel’s Garment and a leather belt – this ties him to Elijah (2 Kings 1:8).
He ate Locusts – this ties tells us that he followed Levitical Law (Leviticus 11:22)
He also ate sweet honey – remember King David stated that God’s words were sweeter than honey on his mouth. (Psalm 119:103)
Keep this in mind: Matthew wrote to a Jewish audience. John’s garments symbolize that he was a prophet sent by the Lord to prepare the way. He was not breaking any Jewish Law rather he was upholding the Law. Lastly, John was preaching the Word of God.
2 Timothy 2:7 [ESV] Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
Great job in tying these together 🙂
